What We Do
Sunday Creek Horizons is a full-service firm that provides issue advocacy and strategic communication, real estate development, and business development services to a broad range of clients -- with a particular focus on Appalachian communities and causes.
Our firm was formed with a simple, clear mission: to improve the lives of Appalachian Ohioans. We strongly believe in the boundless potential of our region, and believe that Appalachian communities deserve a seat at the table when resources are allocated in the halls of power. As our firm grows, so does our commitment to social impact investment and authentic engagement.

Sunday Creek Horizons is working with the Appalachian Partnership to expand the breadth and depth of Board membership, and to assist the nonprofit in pulling down millions of dollars in additional investment to Appalachian Growth Capital, the region’s only Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI).
Ohio University College of
Health Sciences and Professions
In an effort to improve its local relationships across the footprint of Ohio University’s regional campuses, Sunday Creek Horizons was hired to set up introductions for the College of Health Sciences and Professions at the University, and to develop relationships that could lead to mutually beneficial pursuit of state and federal funding. Sunday Creek connected CHSP leadership to officials in Belmont, Muskingum, and Ross counties during a four-month engagement. Sunday Creek also generated interest among dozens of regional school district superintendents in a College initiative to improve student wellness through engagement with schools.
Outdoor Recreation Council of Appalachia
Sunday Creek Horizons was engaged in March 2021 to assist ORCA in advocating for over $2 million to complete a full build-out of the Bailey’s Trail System, which, when fully developed, will be the largest mountain biking trail east of the Mississippi.
Ohio Association of Community Action Agencies
Sunday Creek Horizons has worked with OACCA since 2019, and proudly provides advocacy services in Washington and in Columbus to advance the interests of low-income Ohioans among key decision makers. In 2021, we were instrumental in securing over $500 million in rental assistance monies from the U.S. Department of the Treasury for OACCA to administer.
2020 U.S. Census
The 2020 Census was undertaken during a year of historic disruption to the status quo. Recognizing Appalachian Ohio might be significantly undercounted, amidst the disrupting of the pandemic, Sunday Creek Horizons created a first-of-its-kind complete count effort to encourage online responses to the 2020 Census. Sunday Creek also brought together Ohio University, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, the Mayor’s Partnership for Progress, and the Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council to fund this historic digital marketing campaign. Sunday Creek worked directly with U.S. Census staff, and shared targeted videos from elected officials across the region that reached over 500,000 people. This drove a statistically significant increase in Census response across the region, which will yield millions of dollars of additional federal investment to the region in the coming decade.
